We’ve been on this legendary ride to Jura Mountains lately! Don’t want to advert on this forgotten motorcycle paradise too much, but just to say: This is the last, undiscovered, white spot on many motorcyclist's list!

Many great things to see, near and far.

Average travel pace was fair;

Cooltours Motorcycle Touring Europe Tip #3; Make A Decision!

As lengthy explained in my tip #2, travelling in Europe can be widely underrated re the amount of time needed to get from A to B or, the other way around, is often by far overrated of what you can do and see within a limited range of time. Especially people coming from overseas do often expect to be able of using the same calculation-basics for their trip planning than they are using in the US or AUS. Let me say it loud and clear: It is NOT, it is NOT, it is NOT. And equal important: This does not at all depend on the riders ability or skills.

To avoid too much of disappointment, there is one safe, reliable and extremely simple way: It is my magic formula no. 2 and it is: MAD = MAKE A DECISION!

Again I must ask for your faith; Once you have done a decision for one or two main target-areas for your motorcycle trip, you will not regret! Much more, you will get rewarded for your decision. Your win:

• By far easier and very much more relaxed travelling
• Way more time to enjoy what ever you want to enjoy
• Freedom to change your plan anyway and immediately
• Occasions to stop for taking one or more pictures
• SEE and FEEL the places you have been, and not only know the connection-highways between these places.

Now, that we found out that there’s no way around making a decision; WHAT- or WHERE-for should we decide than? Going for a nice dinner at a cool restaurant brings out the same question each time: “What do you have?!”

So, what do WE have to offer here in Europe, you might ask.

I have spent some time to make the google map below. It show’s you (very roughly) the main areas where a motorcyclist can have fun in Europe. There are some areas maybe we can discuss to be on the list or not, other’s are not there but easely would be worth to be in there too. All of these areas have 4 things in common:

• I can tell you about in from very own, in depth knowledge.
• You will not regret having done your decision exactly for the area you did decide for. All of theme are worth a journey around half of the globe to be discovered by you on the back of a motorcycle. I’d most definitely bet on that if I’d know you better;-)
• You can spend at least one week in either one of these areas with motorcycling only. You will not ride the same road twice.
• It is easy and safe to ride there.

Now, as we found out that there’s so much choice, and that actually we can’t go wrong at all, if only we decide for one or two of these areas… Well, WHAT shall we decide than for and HOW do we find out what’s best for us…?!

Well, that’s maybe the toughest thing of all your travel, but, as everybody knows, the anticipation of something is major part of a whole thing and not rarely loads of fun anyway.

So, that’ll be my next instalment than, hopefully I’ll make it to that earlier than to this one!

The other purpose of mountains

It is evident: Mountains rock! As taller they are, as more they do. All of us know their main purpose: their existance is the base for what we like so much to do; motorcycling all kind of passes upward and down on the other side. If necessary, we turn around there and do it again, just the other way around.

Now, as there is winter amongst central Europe latitude, riding a twowheeler is simply too dangerous. Luckily there's more one can do, if only the rocks rock hard enough and are close enough; Skiing, on a brilliant blue Monday morning, comes close, very close to a day on the motorbike! This day was simply superb!

I have a lucky-streak!

Yes, I'm on a roll, kind of have a very nice lucky streak currently; Yesterday I have again been on a great rideout! Motorcycling in the middle of winter 2010/11 and all around a place which is by far more known as a place for skiers but as a place for motorcyclists, especially between the month of November and April.

The goal was initionaly to set off towards Black Forest, but, as I was not ready to stay on the Autobahn for an hour to get there, but much more was keen on jumping on the curvy roads immediately, I agreed with myself not to choose the filet today, but be happy with a juicy burger instead. The plan changed with firing up the engine; A loop around the backyard would to the current huger for curves justice and, in the current case, it looked like this:

Green hills…

…and the corn seems to grow already again.

Coffee at the local bikers hangout at Zuerich Airport's landingstrip (pos. F)...

Also a must for every "cooltour"; a little bit of culture. This time a view from the distance to Regensburg Castle, just do do the handle justice at least.

Than for a short intermezzo at the dealer of my trust, just to get my portion of bike-porn….

On my way back to the parking I had to realize that not everything that comes in orange is necessarily Austrian and completely unsexy...

How ever, red-white-blue is by far more sexy, as I'm finding. Ain't it?!

Now, this loop it's by for not a perfect 10 here in usual measurements. But it has been my perfect 10 on this weekend in the middle of January 2011! I am gratefull for having been able to ride around the backyard for a couple of houers. This is how it looks like in google-maps:

What a luck! What a privilege!

I can’t tell you how happy I am today! It is middle on January in the middle of Europe. Usually we have a layer of snow above a layer of ice above the road. Today, I feel guilty to be so happy about it, today we had sunshine and 6°C! It did not take too long to find some fellows for a circle around the block!

Forecast did promises already yesterday that it’s going to be a motorcycling day today. As I always knew that there will be one more riding day this winter, I did not remove battery. Every day was thinking; “It's tomorrow! It’s going to be tomorrow., Tomorrow I'll move the bike!”.

As a result, a decent batterycharge was highly recommended and, as I found out with a short test, totally necessary indeed.

So we headed just south, all the way towards the Alps. Not, that we did intend at all to enter some serious mountain passes. No, it is clear that everything which could come into consideration is not possible to do with a motorcycle at that time of the year if simultanousely one intends to enjoy the ride. So we stayed on lover altitude, drove along some lakes shore (which you can’t do in summer as EVERY-f…in-BODY does it in summer and finally ended up for a short stop at the bakery of my trust:
Tschirky in Schmerikon! Nice selection of sweets and a spot in the sun to sit outside ( did I say it is mid January?).

Well, there’s not much more to report about this ride but that it has been pure bliss. Just the fact itself that it could happened, just a few days after I almost lost my nerves about the outlook on such many motorcycle free days, just that fact makes this whole thing so special! Wow! Battery’s fully loaded again. What a luck! What a privilege!

You think you are fast?

Now, after a bunch of tweets written and and half a million which I red already, I still don’t know much about the whole thing anyway. How’s everything connected? What or who do these folks respond to or who do they obviously talk to? And Why is some of that words highlighted blue and some have a #… ? Well, I’ll get there some day, that's clear.
After having 20 followers now, I realized at least one thing so far: It seems to be the netikette to thank  followers. Well, thanks folks! I hope you’ll find some cool stuff amongst the rare things I post. Let me just ad one maximum cool youtube video for you which I found after clicking through a channel to which I was led from a tweet!

When ever you think you are fast on the way with your GS, there's annother one, taking that bend (slightly) faster than you... ever!

Mmmh, and all that obviously easely can be done in Jeans.

Please let color come back...!

For a motorcyclist, it's the very most terrible time of the year when temperatures drop below the freezing point and make it impossible to move a motorcycle around with a minimum level of safety.
In this time of the year, I usually feel like having been left by my love; There’s nothing I can do getting her back, there seems never ever to be happiness anymore.

It is grey. Everything is just grey.

The town is grey...
...and so is the farmland.

It is good to have some substitute at such hard time. Going to places where you have been with her might help for instance. So I have decided to go to my local riding-gear-dealer’s place where he’s having a little “apero” for his customers on this new years day to have a brew and some salt-crackers on the new year. But is has been exactly as it is, when you go to that place where you have kissed your lost love in happier days; it hurts even more. Oh my love! Oh summer! Will you ever come back again…;-(

Please, please. Let the color come back soon!
